These latest photos are of a bushfire at Port Kennedy, Western Australia, on march 25, 2008.
The fire, lit by 4 children under 10 years of age, has burnt 500 hectares of bushland at Port Kennedy
Scientific Park in Western Australia.
More than 120 firefighters, 7 helitankers and two fixed wing water bombers fought the fire on the ground and from the
air.
Fanned by strong north westerly winds, the fire quickly took hold.
Residents in Secret Harbour
were evacuated as the fire came within metres of houses, while people living at Port Kennedy were advised to stay indoors,
keeping windows closed and air conditioners off.
As a precaution Port Kennedy youth camp was evacuated but untouched by the fire.
The Helicopters used to fight the fire are fitted with water carrying capabilities and are able to dump up to 3000
litres of water at any one time or disperse it over a larger area.
The helicopters used local lakes to re-supply their tanks with water,
Port Kennedy
Scientific Park is home to sensitive wetlands and unique coastal duneal systems, and a habitat for endangered wildlife.
This latest fire comes just days after a volunteer firefighter was charged with arson for lighting a fire at lake Cooloongup earlier
this week.
